WHEN THE LIGHTS GO OUT: THE LINGERIE EDIT

Eleven months have passed since sweatshirts and joggers became our daily uniform. Very much comfortable. Very little fashion inspiring.

So, what’s better than wearing something spicier as the new year’s lucky charm? Going hand in hand with the debut of Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty “You thought you was our only Valentine?” collection, 2021 lingerie focuses on sensuality, lightness and transparency, to remind us of the existence of a pre-pandemic world that will return as fresh and colorful pieces.

Far from the twenty twenty Covid-19 outfit numbness, PLACESOFOURS has gathered a wide selection of the most playful season’s underwear —in lace, silk or stretch cotton: feminine balconette or triangle bras to mix or combine with culottes, thongs and multifunctional shapewear. Hot and fun lingerie, that makes any body silhouette sublime. From bottom to top.

From top left to bottom right: Flower Embroidered bralette and slip Fleur Du Mal, Triangle Bralette with Sculpting Mid Waist Briefs Skims, Tapage Nocturne Bra with Madame Rêve Slip Maison Close, Candy Hearts Lace Bralette and G-String Savage x Fenty, Lace-trimmed Balconette bra Saint Laurent & Mesh High Leg Briefs Savage x Fenty, Satin Triangle Bra and Briefs Monki, Logo Tulle Bra and Briefs Gucci, Mesh Bel Bra and Bambin Tanga Eres, Aurora Cutout Embroidered Bra and Briefs Coco De Mer

LAST CALL: 10 MUST HAVE PIECES ON SALE

From left to right: Sweden Leather Sandals Magda Butrym, Aimee Suede Clutch Khaite, Jersey Bodysuit Alexandre Vauthier, Hourglass Wool Blazer Balenciaga, Printed Tote Acne Studios, Wool Wide Leg Pants Theory, Adelie Leather Boots Chloé, Pearl Earrings Leigh Miller x Space for Giants, La Maille Cold-Shoulder Knit Top Jacquemus, Atlanta Midi Dress Sleeper.

At the stroke of every seasonal sale there is one rule only: get it before it’s gone. We are talking about that luxury item we’ve been drooling over since its runway debut —and that at this particular time of year may pop up as pocket-friendly. Perhaps a fashion piece as transversal as it is tempting, to wear and re-use all spring. Not by chance, the sale pieces we’ve listed are passe-partout must-haves, including a fitted blazer (perfect for layering now and wearing bare legged later), cut-out tops — as the latest trends command — (Jacquemus), a classic pair of wide-leg suit trousers (Theory) and a day-to-night voluminous dress (Sleeper). Seasonless models to be paired with shiny and bold accessories (Chloé) that will elevate any warmer #ootd.

What is landing in your shopping basket? Among the diverse international e-retailers, here our top 10 pieces up to 70% off to catch online before it is too late.

THE MOST WANTED BAGS OF THE SEASON

From top to bottom: Cloud XL Textured-Leather Clutch Balenciaga, Musubi Midi Almond Acne Studios, The Crisscross clutch Bottega Veneta, Small Jackie Bag 1961 Gucci, Satin Moonbag Bag EÉRA, Cleo Bag Prada, Clush Grained Leather By Far, Baguette Swipe Bag Coperni

Bags are not just an accessory, but a natural extension of a woman’s personality. As the perfect finishing touch for every outfit and occasion, in fact, the SS21 handbags, clutches and baguettes will be the energy-boost we all need to give a fashionable shift to the many loungewear pieces we wore throughout twenty twenty.

With their dynamic silhouettes (Bottega Veneta), pop colors (Eéra), sinuous shapes (Coperni) and precious details (Gucci), the most wanted bags of the season are the exquisite synthesis of everything we deserve to put a smile on our spring-ready face.

PLACES TO BE: BELDI COUNTRY CLUB MARRAKECH

In the midst of everything going on in the world right now, mind-traveling has the power to keep our vagabond souls alive, while waiting for that cathartic moment we will be allowed to get back on the road again.

For this week destination, PLACESOFOURS takes you to Marrakech, Morocco. A multi-faceted city — intriguing and fairy —, with its desert surrounding, the labyrinthine souks, the lively mosaics, the precious Persian carpets and the spices inebriating each corner.

Just a 10 minutes drive from the city walls, the Beldi Country Club hides among palm trees and pristine fields, with its green armor of bougainvillea and succulent plants, where to enjoy a luxury refreshment between tradition and modernity. In addition to Beldi’s hotel and restaurant services, guests have at their disposal a SPA, an outdoor swimming pool and a series of custom-made activities, including golf and tennis courts, cooking classes, horseback riding and ceramic courses.

A mesmerizing retreat to experience the one thousand and one wonders of the Arabian nights.

MEN IN LUPIN SHOES

A still from “Lupin”, available on Netflix

Whether you have finished it or are binge-watching it for the second time already, one thing is for sure: Lupin is on the top list of the newest Netflix releases you can’t miss.

And we get why. Suspense, humor and charisma are the basis of the French drama, where intrigues and deceptions meet the brilliant, shrewd, witty and calculating protagonist. The master of disguise. In one word, Lupin — the gentleman thief with an impeccable style. A style, the one sported by actor Omar Sy, urban and functional, consistent with the frenetic adventures of the character inspired to the iconic burglar, born from Maurice Leblanc’s pen.

In fact, among brilliantly detailed plans to carry out his revenge, Assane Diop — aka the biggest Arsène Lupin admirer — wears practical yet up to date pieces of clothing. Mainly casual, relaxed and streetwear oriented. So arm yourself with a classic Barbour (not exclusively a The Crown’s property), oversized coats, utility tops and trousers, zipped sweaters and vintage-inspired flat caps to tackle your next (fashion) burglary.

From left to right: Kori Oversized Sweatshirt Weekday, Classic Bedale Jacket Barbour, Jordan 1 Sneakers Nike, Standard Sweatpants Weekday, Full-Zip Hoodie Adidas, Mohair& Wool Coat Our Legacy, Embroidered Beanie Stussy, Oslo Wool-Blend Flat Cap Lock & Co Hatters, Nylon Gilet Prada, Leather Derby Shoes Bottega Veneta, O’Connor Two Piece Suit Tom Ford, Cargo Pants Balenciaga.

LEGGINGS: A FASHION TREND TO EMBRACE

From left to right: Knitted Merino Wool Leggings Ami Amalia, Suede Leggings The Row, High-Rise Pocket Legging Girlfriend, Dynasty Floral Leggings Balenciaga, Latex Leggings Saint Laurent, Two-Tone Leggings Totême, Zip Detailed Leggings Wardrobe.NYC, Roonie Leggings With Slit Hems Khaite, Blue Moon Leggings Marine Serre.

To leggings or not to leggings? The question may be a though one to answer, since the fashion debate keeps shaking the trendy souls of the industry. Yet, in a year in which we spent more time on the sofa than with friends and family, leggings turned out to be as indispensable as versatile garments.

Comfortable, multifaceted, never banal… and even à la mode. They left workouts to conquer the catwalks of international Maison, from the knitted model of Prada to the Saint Laurent latex second skin for Fall 20, proving you can be dressed up while staying practical.

Which models to invest in? Wool leggings with stirrups (Ami Amalia) to wear with pumps and sandals, with slits (Khaite), vinyl leggings for the sensual attires (Saint Laurent), with statement logo (Marine Serre) or leggings with multicolor and effervescent patterns (Balenciaga).

4 FASHION NEWS THAT LIT THE CYBER

A Still from the Saint Laurent film “Summer of ’21”

The fashion industry is out of its festive hibernation, giving us the time to recover from the endless meals and binge-watched series. What’s new on the cyberspace? Here are the fashion news that welcomed 2021, between stellar collaborations and a short film as ghostly as it is glamorous.

SAINT LAURENT SS21 COLLECTION BECOMES A HORROR FILM

Presenting clothes in the middle of the desert? It wasn’t enough for Saint Laurent, that has just revealed a seven minutes horror film “Summer of ’21”, created and directed by Gaspar Noè, to better capture the Anthony Vaccarello’s luscious, 60s-inspired Spring/Summer 2021 collection.

With icon Charlotte Rampling as the high sorceress of a coven of Saint Laurent models, the hypnotic fashion feature will keep your eyes glued to your devices, wanting more and more.

GUCCI X THE NORTH FACE

After long weeks of fanatical hype, the most anticipated high-fashion-meets-street-wear collaboration of the year is about to land both in selected European stores and online between January 9 and 22.

Not only clothing, bags and boots, the Gucci x The North Face capsule collection offers tents and sleeping bags too, presented with a breathtaking campaign in the Alps, photographed by Daniel Shea.

A natural setting of mountains, trees and lakes, to present the Gucci x TNF sustainable collection, inspired by the 70s and dedicated to the adventurous travelers of yesterday, today and tomorrow. To return to conquer the world that has been temporarily taken away from us, one designer hiking boot step at a time. And what about the fluffy oversized puffers? That’s all we need right now!

BOTTEGA VENETA WENT SOCIAL MEDIA FREE

Last Tuesday Bottega Veneta deleted its social media accounts on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Out of the blue. With no official communication.

A somewhat counter-current choice in this delicate period where, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, fashion brands have found themselves forced to increase their digital presence, either to present their latest collections and to stay connected to old and new customers — younger also, embracing the generation Z platforms par excellence, as Tik Tok and Twitch.

So what prompted Daniel Lee to overshadow his social presence? Could it be a 4.0 way to create even more hype around one of the most desired and worn brands of the moment? Or that Bottega Veneta has decided to undertake a business line focused on exclusivity and word of mouth, as the luxury sector used to be before the nowadays fashion democratization? We’ll just wait and see.

ALL THE NEXT FASHION WEEK DATES TO NOTE

They will continue as hybrid editions — a bit physical a lot digital — but, despite the different form, the Fashion Week schedules do not stop. Starting on January 15 with Milano Moda Uomo, which will bring the FW21 collections in the Lombard capital, physically for Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, Etro, Kway and Solid Homme, plus 32 digital contents, including Ermenegildo Zegna, Prada, MSGM and Tod’s.

Men’s Fashion Week then moves to Paris from January 19 to 24, opening with Berluti and closing with Celine. Finally, from January 25 to 28 Couture Week will enchant guests near and far with the opulent creations of Dior, Chanel, Valentino, Elie Saab, the Kim Jones’ debut at Fendi and Sacai’s Chitose Abe as Jean Paul Gaultier’s first guest creative.

6 MAGAZINE COVERS WE LOVED IN 2020 | MEN OF OURS

Magazines from top left to bottom right: GQ US, AD, Vogue, The Greatest, Hunter Fashion Magazine, PAP.

It is rare to read about a transparent dialogue between magazines of different titles. Yet, in an era where the publishing industry is going through jagged difficulties, the union that is strength should be shared competition-free black on white.

Placesofours loves paper and the ink with which fashion, current events and lifestyle are told and shot.

Despite the pandemic, the 2020 men covers panorama did not fail to publish captivating covers and socially interesting stories, being once again the wide window on contemporaneity and representative personalities of the moment, both in glossy international periodicals (GQ UK delivered the gold medal for Best Dressed Man 2020 to Timothée Chalamet, who took the British magazine November 2020 cover in a full Prada look) and in the Made in Italy independent magazines we won’t stop browsing — Pap, Hunter and The Greatest, to mention some.

Long live to the printed world.
